Tableware Master Sheng Yen Used during His Solitary Retreat

During the solitary retreat, Master Sheng Yen emulated the Buddha’s lifestyle of having only one meal every day, always before noon. Venerable Rongzhi, who took care of the retreatant, would bring the food to the window of the retreat quarters, and sound the hand-chime as a signal. Ven. Rongzhi recalls that, during that period of time, Master Sheng Yen ate simply, and his favorite and most frequent dish was sweet potato leaves from the mountain.
